Heat & Stick Powder w/Dazzling Diamonds Plus Cracked Glass Tutorial(s)

Ok, I really need my eyes checked, so the big news is not till Tuesday, the 9th is Tuesday, did ya'll know that?

So perhaps you will forgive me if I do my Tuesday Tutorial on Monday and give you two tutorials instead of one?  OK?

The first one will be Heat & Stick, and this is how I did the Christmas card I showed here on my blog a few days ago.

 You will need: Heat Gun, Versamark Pad, Jetblack Stazon Pad, Classic Ink Pads to color with, Aqua painter or blender pen, Dazzling diamonds, Heat & Stick Powder, Vanilla cardstock (this is just what I used)

 

 

 

Stamp your image with the Stazon pad on your cardstock.

 

 

  

Color in your image.  I used Old Olive, Bordering Blue, Creamy Caramel, and Really Rust

 

 

  

Ink up the whole image with a versamark pad.

 

  

Sprinkle on your Heat and Stick Powder (like my little ice cream sampler spoon?)

Tap off excess.

 

It looks like your image is covered with cornstarch kinda.

 

 

Heat up the heat and stick powder, just until it goes clear.

Cause what you are doing is making glue, and if you overheat it, it won't be as sticky.

 

 

Here you can see the top part is done enough, and the bottom part still needs to be heated.

Hopefully this picture helps you.

 

 

Now sprinkle on your Dazzling Diamonds.

Tap off the excess.

Then go zap it very very quickly one more time with the heat gun.

 

Ta Da!  All sparkly and pretty.

Now assemble your card.

 

 

 

Pretty huh?

 

 

 

Cracked Glass Tutorial

Basically you are using most of the supplies you used before, except replace the Heat and Stick Powder and Dazzling Diamonds with Glassy Glaze Embossing Powder.  This was one of the techniques we taught at a Stamp & Scrap University.   - Here we go....

After you stamped your image and colored it, you are going to put Versamark Ink all over the image.  This time I cut the paper a little longer, so I leave the bottom so it does not get any versarmark ink on it, then I have something to hold onto when I am embossing. You will trim that off later.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sprinkle on your Glassy Glaze Embossing Powder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As you can see it is way thicker then regular embossing powder, tap off the excess.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This kinda shows the bigger crystals on the card.

 

 

Now you need to heat it up with your heat gun.

When I use Glassy Glaze I like to heat my card from underneath, that way the heat gun does not blow the powder all over.  Since the Glassy Glaze powder is more like crystals they don't stick to the card as well as regular embossing powder.

It takes a little longer, and you just want to pay attention not to get the gun too close, but you just don't waste as much Glassy Glaze.

Let this cool.

 

 After it cools, you are going to cover the image with Versamark again, sprinkle on the Glassy Glaze, heat, and then repeat these steps again. So you are doing 3 layers of Glassy Glaze.  Just make sure to let them cool in between, so your Versmark pad does not stick to the embossed image.

 

 

See how nice and thick and shiny it is, almost like water.

Now you could totally leave it like this if you wanted that look, but we are going for the cracked glass look.

So take your embossed cardstock and go to the freezer, take out an icecream drumstick and put your cardstock in the freezer.  Close the freezer door, and go enjoy your ice cream.

 

After you finished your ice cream, 10 minutes or so. Take out your cardstock.

Start bending it and listen for it to crack. If it does not crack, put it back in the freezer for longer, go ahead have another ice cream, I won't tell.  I had to put mine in 3 times....that was 3 ice creams....ok, I'm just kidding, but I did have to test it a few times before it was ready, it all depends on the coldness of your freezer.

 

So, see the cracks that are happening on the card? Neat huh?

 

 

If you want you can take a stamping sponge and rub some ink from an ink pad over top and the ink will seep into the cracks, and make them show up a little more...this is just an option and you do not have to do this. I rubbed this with More Mustard ink.  It did make the cracks show up a little more for you on here though.

See the ugly bottom where you had the extra paper to hold on to?  Go ahead and cut that off.

 

 

Here, is what it looks like done.

Remember this one I rubbed with More Mustard classic ink, if you don't rub it with the ink, it will be clearer and just cracked.
